The Arena mentoring scheme

Our collective of mentors are here to listen, guide and inspire the next generation of talent across the fields of design and illustration.

Applications to join the sixth round of the scheme will re-open in April 2024.

Make sure you’re following @TheArenaUK on Instagram for updates on our next cohort.

What’s this all about then?

The mentoring scheme is not just about opening doors, but ensuring no creative breaking into this industry feels alone.

We partner you up with two mentors, at different stages in their journeys and often different disciplines too, to diversify perspectives and broaden your outlook on creative careers.

Who is the opportunity for?

Applications are open to anyone based in the UK with less than two years of industry experience, in your desired creative field.

This includes the cumulative amount of time you have spent on industry placements, doing internships, freelancing or in a full-time position in a role relevant to your desired career path.

Here’s how it all works…

If your application is successful, you’ll be introduced via email to two mentors, to find a time and date that works for you to have a 45min video call (or face-to-face meet up!).

These meetings will take place soon after (roughly late May / early June), where you’ll have the opportunity to get feedback, ask questions, share stories and gain advice.

If you click after your initial chat, it’s then up to you and your mentor whether you maintain an ongoing relationship and schedule regular meet-ups or not.

Meet the mentors

Our mentors are based all over the UK, with a focus on design and illustration. From freelance brand designers to artist agents, we have the perfect mentor waiting to meet you. The list is ever-growing, so if you’re interested in becoming a mentor, click here. We’re particularly keen to hear from creative professionals from under-represented backgrounds.

Advice for your application

Assuming you’ve met the main criteria, the key thing your application is being judged on is why you want to get involved.

We want to hear about your journey - the highs and the lows, how you’d benefit from a mentor and how you’d make the most of this opportunity.

We’ll be looking at your socials, portfolio and CV to establish what level you’re currently working at, but your application isn’t being judged on this.

Note: You will need a Google account to complete the application form.
